The DWP have apologised and admitted they were wrong to call the police
to eject an Edinburgh Claimants representative from the High Riggs Job
Centre at Tollcross, Edinburgh. This re-affirms that claimants always
have the right to be accompanied by their own choice of representative

Targets and disciplinary threats pressure Jobcentre staff to sanction claimants

• Inquiry launched after league tables revealed
• Leak shows pressure on staff to refer claimants

The government has launched an inquiry after it was forced to admit that jobcentres have been setting targets and league tables to sanction benefit claimants despite assurances to parliament this week that no such targets were being set.

A leaked email shows staff being warned by managers that they will be disciplined unless they increase the number of claimants referred to a tougher benefit regime.
